Citizenship forum helps members

The DC 37 Citizenship Committee held their annual forum to help members get on the road to citizenship. "There's a lot more interest in becoming a citizen now with Trump in the White House," said the Committee Chair and President of Local 374, Cuthbert Dickenson. Their forum was held on March 22 at union headquarters.

The members who attended had an opportunity to speak with representatives from various organizations who specialize in citizenship matters. "It's important not to wait any longer to apply for citizenship," said Joan A. Foy, attorney from the union's Municipal Employee Legal Services. The filing process continues to get more expensive, said Foy.

Representatives from the city's Comptroller's Office and the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services also participated.

Foy invited members to call MELS for an appointment for a free consultation to help them with the application process.
