Caribbean Heritage Committee holds ecumenical service
On a warm pre-spring Sunday afternoon, the DC 37 Caribbean
Heritage Committee celebrated its establishment by holding its first ecumenical
service at Brooklyns Hanson Place Central United Methodist Church.
If Jesus walked the earth today, he would be a union member,
said Mistress of Ceremonies Carmen Charles, Caribbean Heritage Committee
co-chair and president of Hospital Employees Local 420 at the March 13
service.
In the solemn service of song and prayer, Rev. Patrick Perrin was joined
by Christian, Hindu and Muslim members to reach out in unity and
draw strength from God.
Rev. Perrin noted the close ties between labor and religion.
Unions are under attack by President Bush, said DC 37 Executive
Director Lillian Roberts. We must view our union like a church where
we care for each other and value each ones contribution. We are
our brothers and sisters keeper.
