DC 37 backs new human rights bill

DC 37 Treasurer and Local 1407 President Maf Misbah Uddin was an important voice in favor of a groundbreaking new human rights bill at its first public hearing at City Hall April 8.

Known as Intro. 512, the Human Rights in Government Operations Audit Law would have the city take an aggressive approach to preventing discrimination rather then seeking remedies after the damage is done.

“DC 37 fully supports Intro. 512, because as city workers we want to be treated fairly,” Uddin said at the hearing. “As city residents, we want everyone to get their fair share of resources and services.”

Accompanying him at the hearing before the Government Operations Committee were Brett Koch of Local 1549, who also testified, and Political Action Director Wanda Williams.
