Your point of view
Question: What is your opinion regarding the proposed cuts to health care by President Bush?

His plan may reduce some out-of-pocket expenses for medical care and co-payments for drugs, but it would still leave millions of Americans without health coverage. I favor the plan proposed by Senator Hillary Clinton that includes health coverage for everyone.”

—Alan Mendelson,
Claims Specialist,
Amalgamated Professional Employees, Local 154

“The most important thing that I would consider is that people don’t lose their jobs. If it means that I have to give up $100 of my money, I would do it if it meant saving jobs. Jobs are a critical factor too.”

—Carl Brisset,
Supervising Public Health Sanitarian,
Health Service Employees, Local 768

“Money for health care needs to be increased not cut back. We need more positions filled in the hospitals and more programs funded, especially for preventive care. The cuts don’t make a lot of sense to me.”

—Carl Jones,
Health and Safety Coordinator,
Municipal Hospital Employees Local 420

“I don’t like them. We can’t afford any more cuts to health care. There are a lot of single parents raising families and they are really struggling right now. We need more services and support in the community, not cutbacks.”

—Mary Ruth Kelly,
Office Associate 3A,
Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549
