Deadline May 18 for scholarships and
outstanding employee awards

Members may be eligible for cash awards as outstanding civil servants and may apply for scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 for their children in or entering college. The awards are offered through a public-private partnership between The Hundred Year Association of New York and the Dept. of Citywide Administrative Services.

May 18th is the deadline for filing nominations for the Isaac Lieberman Public Service Awards and the E. Virgil Conway College Scholar Awards, which are funded by the businesses and organizations in the association.

Nomination forms and more information are available at the DCAS Web site, www.nyc.gov/dcas, and forms are available from agency personnel offices.

An agency, supervisor, union, or co-worker may nominate an employee for the Public Service Awards. Nominees must be permanent civil service employees of the city with salaries of $73,000 or less and must be endorsed by the agency head.

These awards recognize exceptional employees who have improved the efficiency and quality of services for the people of New York City, enhanced the prestige of city service, and demonstrated dedication well beyond their job descriptions.

This year’s public service awards and individual college scholarships will range from $1,000 to $6,000.
To apply for the scholarships, a student must have at least one parent who is a permanent civil service employee with at least two years of continuous full-time service. Gross family income for 2006 must be $100,000 or less.

Students must graduate from public or private high schools in June 2007, or they must have graduated previously. They must be attending or accepted for admission as full-time students at public or private colleges or universities.

Selection will be based on scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership and commitment, school and community service, SAT or ACT examination scores, and financial need. To be eligible, students must submit a copy of their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
