New benefit booklets in the mail this month

Unsure about your union benefits package?

The DC 37 Health and Security Plan has published 150,000 copies of new booklets, which describe the array of health, legal, educational and other welfare fund benefits enjoyed by most DC 37 members and retirees.

“This is the first time in about 10 years that we have updated our booklets,” said Administrative Liaison Gloria Tomanelli, who headed up the yearlong project of producing thepamphlets.

“We are happy to provide members and retirees who are eligible for plan benefits with a comprehensive resource so they can utilize what’s available to them,” she said.

The booklets are being mailed in May. Because benefits vary according to employment status, the plan prepared separate booklets for full-time employees, part-time employees and retirees.

The 56-to-60 page booklets have separate sections onlegal services, education benefits and health and security benefits, which include prescription drug, dental, podiatry and other benefits.

Each year, the union provides members and retirees with over $240 million worth of benefits, the fruit of early protests and strikes and many years of constructive negotiations with the city.

The booklets do not cover benefits offered to members and retirees who are covered by the DC 37 Cultural Institutions Health and Security Plan Trust and the DC 37 New York Public Library Health and Security Plan Trust.
