Roberts is honored by 100 black women
The Manhattan
Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women honored DC 37 Executive Director
Lillian Roberts March 21 at its second annual Womens History Month luncheon.
The
Terrace in the Sky restaurant at Columbia University provides a fabulous view
of the city skyline Roberts received the Triumph Award for her lifetime of advocacy
on behalf of working women and men and her leadership of New York Citys
largest municipal union.
Proceeds from the event will support the United
Nations Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund and selected domestic violence prevention
programs.
The NCBW advocates on behalf of women of color through national
and local actions and strategic alliances that promote agendas on gender equity
and leadership growth in health, education and economic development.
The
group also honored Marva Allen and Dr. Donna M. Mendes for their contributions
in the fields of economic development and health. The keynote speaker at the Hats
Over Harlem luncheon, Dwa Fanm Board Chair Carolle Charles, discussed the
alarmingly high mortality rates of Haitian women living in this country as they
give birth.
Among those in attendance were writer/director Melvin Van Peebles,
Demetria Lucas of Essence Magazine and Frank J. Cracolici, president and of St.
Lukes Roosevelt Hospital.
