Retiree Etta Dixon honored for saving energy
Local 1655 retiree Etta Dixon was honored Feb. 1 by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz during his State of the Borough speech at Brooklyn College.
Dixon was among a group of 30 Brooklyn residents who were honored for their civic activism. She was cited as one of the first Brooklyn residents to install energy-saving solar panels on the roof of her home.
"I hope that it sets an example for other union members that everyone can play a significant role in protecting our environment," said Dixon. "I'm proud to do my part and happy to save a lot on my electric bill."
A city employee for 34 years, Dixon retired in 1988 and now does volunteer work for the District Council 37 Retirees Association.
