Controller Alvin Warshaviak retires

Friends, family, co-workers and union leaders gathered March 18 to say "Yasher Koach!" - Hebrew praise for a job well done - to Controller Alvin Warshaviak at his retirement celebration after 21 years of service to DC 37.

"Alvin made sure every single aspect of our finances was handled properly," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts. Treasurer Maf Misbah Uddin described Warshaviak as a true professional, able to deal with matters aggressively when the task called for it.

Associate Director Henry Garrido called Warshaviak a "mentor of sorts," helping him to learn the inner workings of how DC 37 operates. "It is very rare to find somebody with such a strong mix of talent and commitment to an organization," Garrido said.

NYC Psychologists Local 1189 President Dr. Leonard Davidman, chair of the DC 37 Jewish Heritage Committee, referred to Warshaviak, a longtime member of the committee, as his consultant, confidant and anchor - and a voice of reason.

Members of the DC 37 Accounting Dept. presented a video montage of family photos, friends singing and co-workers bidding farewell to Warshaviak.

"My heart will always be DC 37," Warshaviak said. He and his wife, Greta, who is also retiring, plan to spend six months of the year living in Israel and devote time to playing with their 2-year-old grandson, Jonathan.
