Japanese trade union delegation visits DC 37

DC 37 hosted a 90-member delegation from a Japanese public-employee union on April 28 at the union's headquarters in downtown Manhattan.

The Japan Federation of Prefectural and Municipal Workers' Union, or Jichiroren, is visiting New York City to participate in a month-long United Nations conference on the Nuclear NonProliferation Treaty. Jichiroren represents 160,000 regional and municipal workers across Japan, whose members include administrative, child care, social work, sanitation and library workers.

DC 37 leaders and staff presented an overview of the services offered by the union. In addition, they reviewed with the Japanese trade unionists the political and legislative attacks on American unions throughout the country, including efforts to gut collective bargaining rights and to cripple unions financially.
