Workers’ comp and pension deadlines near for workers

For workers who participated in the World Trade Center rescue, recovery and cleanup operations, the deadlines to register for the right to file for disability coverage with the pension system and for Workers’ Compensation are right around the corner.

The World Trade Center Disability Law allows New York City Employee Retiree System members who worked in the WTC rescue, recovery or cleanup efforts between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 12, 2002, to file a “Notice of Participation” (Form #622), which allows a subsequent application for disability benefits. The deadline is June 13.

The deadline to register with the Workers’ Compensation system to preserve the right to file a future claim is Aug. 14. The Workers’ Compensation form is WTC-12.
