Keeping the faith in difficult times

DC 37’s Caribbean Heritage Committee held its 6th Annual Interfaith Service April 30 at the union. The theme of the evening was “Exercising One’s Faith in Difficult Times.”

“In these difficult times, especially for our members, now is the time to strengthen our faith, not to abandon it,” said Committee Chair and Local 420 President Carmen Charles, opening the evening with the call to worship.

Co-chair Ray Mendez, a member of Local 1219, started the program with the musical selection “I Believe.” Sermons were delivered by Hindu Pandit Benimadho Misir, Muslim Imam Abdur Farrkhan of the Masjid Al-Jahmian in Brooklyn and Bishop Cecil Riley of the Freedom Hall Church of God.

“We should all be thankful for the blessing our speakers have delivered to us tonight,” said Committee Co-chair Dennis Ifill, the president of Local 1359.
