Ed Fund holds college fair
Admission counselors and representatives from 19 area colleges answered questions from potential students April 28 at the DC 37 Education Fund's College Fair.
Representatives attended from Alfred and Binghamton universities upstate, the College of New Rochelle and the City University of New York, as well as Monroe, Metropolitan and Berkeley colleges.
"We are committed to helping our members achieve their goal of continuing their education," said College Fair Committee Chair Stephen Johnson, a program coordinator for the Ed Fund.
Rita Rivera, a Clerical Associate and Local 1549 member from Queens, read about the fair in the Public Employee Press and brought her son Greg. "I'm not really sure what I want to study, but I'm thinking about computer technology," said the young man after meeting with an admission counselor from the New York City College of Technology in downtown Brooklyn. "This is very helpful."
Local 372 member Marleen Blair, a Parent Coordinator, came to the fair for her son, who couldn't attend. "There's a lot of great information here," she said as she looked through her handful of college catalogs. "The more information we have the better."
The Education Fund plans to organize another college fair next year.
