Latino labor award goes to Lillian Roberts

DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts received a Lifetime Achievement Award May 2 from the New York City chapter of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement at the group's 10th annual dinner-dance in Queens.

"I am honored to have received this award," said Roberts, "But it should really go to the many Latino local leaders, activists and members who contribute so much to making DC 37 a strong union."

Speakers at the gala affair focused on the issue of income inequality, which has worsened in New York City in recent years, and on the need to increase the legal minimum wage and organize low-wage and immigrant workers into the labor movement, according to DC 37 Associate Director Henry Garrido.

SSEU Local 371 Executive Vice President Yolanda Pumarejo is a vice president of LCLAA's New York City chapter, and Local 372 President Santos Crespo Jr. is a past president and executive board member.
