Election 2014
DC 37 endorses Charles Rangel for Congress

DC 37 has endorsed Harlem Congress member Charles Rangel in the June 24 Democratic primary election as he campaigns to continue representing the 13th Congressional District.

Rangel, a decorated Korean War hero, is a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the National Conference of Black Lawyers and was the first African American chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

Rangel met on April 22 with DC 37's Political Action Screening Committee, which recommended his endorsement that night to the union's delegates, DC 37's highest governing body. Delegates voted overwhelmingly to support him.

"Charlie Rangel has been a committed champion of the issues that matter for DC 37 and its members - protecting public services and the men and women who provide them, decent wages, affordable housing, public education, immigration reform and a host of other issues that create a better New York for all," said DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts.

In addition to DC 37, Rangel received the endorsement of DC 37's national union, AFSCME, District Council 1707, and U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congress member Jerrold Nadler. The day before the union endorsement, former President Bill Clinton endorsed Rangel.

"Charlie has been a champion for more good jobs, successful small businesses and strong families for more than 40 years. That's what his district and our country need now," said Clinton.

Members who volunteer for political action can make a difference. If you would like to help get out the vote for Rangel in the June 24 primary, please return the coupon below by mail or fax or call 212-815-1550.
