Union backs nine candidates in U.S. Congressional races

DC 37 endorsed eight New York City incumbents in the Democratic Congressional primary election on June 28.

The union is also supporting Democrat Richard Reichard, who is challenging Republican Congress member Dan Donovan in Staten
Island.

The union will be neutral in the race to fill the seat of Harlem Congress member Charles Rangel in the 13th Congressional District. Rangel is stepping down after serving 23 terms.

The union's delegates approved the DC 37 Steering Committee's recommended candidates for the Democratic Congressional seats at its monthly meeting on May 24.

The endorsed incumbents are Grace Meng in the 6th Congressional District in Queens; Nydia Velazquez (7th C.D); Hakim Jeffries (8th C.D); Yvette Clarke (9th C.D); Carolyn Maloney (12 th C.D.); Joseph Crowley (14th C.D); Jose E. Serrano (15th C.D) and Eliot Engel (16th C.D.).

Reichard is a former president of the Staten Island Democratic Association. He recently retired as the human resources director of the Dept. of Finance.

"Our serving Congressional representatives have consistently been strong supporters of issues that are important to working families," said Local 1359 President Dennis Ifill, chair of the DC 37 Political Action Committee. "We believe Richard Reichard will also be a good ally if he wins the election."
