Snapshots Edited by Alfredo Alvarado Labor & Faith reaches out with books Activists from the New York AFSCME Labor, Faith and Community Outreach program handed out hundreds of free books at the annual East Harlem Book Fair on May 14 at the Tito Puente Educational Complex at PS 117 and East 109th Street. DC 37 activists joined volunteers from District Council 1707 and the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) at the Saturday afternoon book giveaway. This is the second consecutive year that union activists have distributed the free books at the neighborhood fair. Volunteers have also participated in the City Harvest Mobile Markets distributing fresh produce to needy New Yorkers. The outreach program was launched in 2014 by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, DC 37's national organization. The program's mission is to bring faith and community organizations together to address pressing issues in the community. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
