Commissioner Banks honors MELS attorneys at union Law Day

DC 37's annual Law Day event celebrates the attorneys who provide legal services to members through the union's Municipal Employees Legal Services.

MELS celebrated Law Day on May 12 at the union with special guest Steve Banks, the commissioner of the Human Services Administration. Banks acknowledged the MELS attorneys for their efforts on behalf of the city's civil servants. "You help keep a roof over someone's head," said Banks.

The commissioner noted the influence DC 37 has in making the city a better place for New Yorkers. "DC 37 is an important force for change in the city," he said.

DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido acknowledged the MELS staff for working with the most vulnerable New Yorkers.

MELS Director and Chief Counsel Joan Beranbaum thanked her staff for their continued dedication and commitment to providing quality legal services to the members.
