Union committees gear up for coming events

September
DC 37 will show its solidarity at the annual Labor Day Parade on Saturday, Sept. 8. There will be floats, food, music and fun for union members and their families. For more information, please call your local president.

All working members with physical disabilities who want to attend should call Barbara Ingram-Edmonds at (212) 815-1500. (Retirees should contact the DC 37 Retirees Association.)

DC 37 will have its first Financial Information Services and Educational Program (FISEP) workshop Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6:00 p.m. Seating is limited so please return the coupon at right before Aug. 1 to register. For more information, please call Ginny Kuzminski at (212) 815-1502.

The Black History Committee is coordinating DC 37’s participation in this year’s African American Day Parade, to be held on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 2:00 p.m. For more information, please call Vice Chairs Sherwyn Britton at (212) 815-1060 or Cynthia Chin-Marshall at (212) 815-1300.

The Latino Heritage Committee kicks off Latino Heritage Month on Sept. 17 at 6:00 p.m. with a cultural exhibit and program in the DC 37 lobby. The celebration will conclude with a Finale Celebration Oct. 19 at 6:00 p.m. For more information, please call Committee Chair Magda DeJesus at (212) 815-1219 or Vice Chair José Sierra at (212) 815-1011.

The Irish Heritage and Health & Nutrition committees are sponsoring the union’s third Childcare Information Fair, Sept. 22 in Rooms 1-4 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All members who are interested in attending must register by coupon. For more information, please call the Personal Services Unit at (212) 815-1250.

The Professional Committee will hold a conference Sept. 28-30. The conference is open to members whose locals are part of DC 37’s Professional Division. For information on registration, contact your local president or the Professional Division, (212) 815-1040.

October
During the month of October, the Latino Heritage and Italian Heritage committees will have cultural exhibits in DC 37’s lobby area.

The Italian Heritage Committee will hold its Celebration Dinner Dance on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Russo’s on the Bay. For more information or to purchase tables or individual tickets, please call Debbie Guglielmino at (212) 815-1040 or Ellen Medwid at (212) 815-1060.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and DC 37’s Health & Nutrition Committee is coordinating DC 37’s participation as a flagship sponsor of the annual walk against breast cancer in Central Park on Sunday, Oct. 14.
