Committees schedule events

August
Reduced-price union tickets for the Sept. 19 New York Liberty basketball game will be on sale in the DC 37 lobby “box office” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and Sept. 2, for union members and families only. First come, first served while tickets last. Sept. 19 is Fan Appreciation Day: free T-shirts for the first 10,000 ticket holders as the Liberty plays Washington.

September
Because the usual Saturday for the Labor Day Parade falls on 9/11, the DC 37 and the Central Labor Council will protest the Bush Administration’s policies with a demonstration at 8th Ave. and 30th St. at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1 — the day President Bush expects to be renominated by the Republican Party. For more information, contact your local or look for fliers in the lobby in August.

DC 37’s newly formed Caribbean Heritage Committee is organizing DC 37 members to join the millions who participate in the annual West Indian American Day Carnival Parade along Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway on Labor Day.
In preparation, the committee will host a fundraiser, the Pre-Labor Day Carnival Jump Up at DC 37 on Friday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. for union members, family and friends. Donation is $10, and includes light refreshments and live entertainment.
The parade will be on Labor Day, Sept. 6. For details on where and when the DC 37 contingent will assemble, look for fliers in the DC 37 lobby or call your local in August. For more information, please call Committee Chair Carmen Charles at 212-815-1420. To join the committee, return the coupon below.

The Latino Heritage Committee will open Latino Heritage Month Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. with a cultural exhibit and program at DC 37. The celebration will conclude with a Finale Celebration Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. For more information, look for fliers or call Committee Chair Magda DeJesus at 212-815-1219.
