Increment rises for Library Tech Assistants
Under an agreement between Local
1930 and the New York Public Library, Library Technical Assistants will
receive an extra $454 a year when they complete their seventh year on
the job.
The agreement, signed May 27, is the last step in implementing DC 37s
2000-2002 economic agreement. The pact gave bargaining units the flexibility
to use an Additional Compensation Fund equivalent to 1 percent of the
payroll for such options as step pay plans, annuities or straight salary
increases.
The 2000-2002 contract included two salary increases of 4 percent plus
the Additional Compensation Fund.
Under the May 27 agreement, Local 1930 will draw from the ACF to boost
the recurring increment payment for LTAs from $541 per year
to $995 after their seventh year. Eligible LTAs received the increase
in June.
This agreement fulfills our long-term goal of building regular pay
increases into our contract that add to the across-the-board annual raises
our members win in collective bargaining, said Ray Markey, president
of New York Public Library Guild Local 1930. With recurring increment
payments, we are creating step-pay plans, which provide an incentive for
our members to make a career at the library.
LTAs also receive another $541 per year recurring increment payment after
their 10th year, plus an $800 annual longevity payment after 15 years.
Local 1930 represents 200 LTAs, whose responsibilities range from cataloging
and ordering books to helping out at information desks.
Members of the bargaining committee included Mr. Markey, Vice President
for LTAs Diane Serrano, Executive Board member Anthony Wyche, Treasurer
Carol Thomas and Assistant Directors Michelle H. Green and Michael Musuraca
of the DC 37 Research and Negotiations Dept.
