City Tech salutes Roberts for public service

DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts was honored by the New York City College of Technology May 17 at the school's annual Best of New York Award Dinner. The theme of the 2010 dinner was "A Salute to Success."

"This is in recognition of your many achievements on behalf of thousands of City Tech members and thousands of other public servants across your exceptionally distinguished career," said Jewel Escobar, executive director of the college's City Tech Foundation.

"Education is very important for our union members, so it is a real honor to be acknowledged by this great educational institution," said Roberts, who was selected for the award by the foundation's board of directors, which also asked her to serve as honorary chair of next year's dinner. The foundation raises funds to provide financial assistance and scholarships to thousands of students at City Tech in downtown Brooklyn. City Tech, part of the City University of New York, serves more than 15,000 students in 60 programs that award baccalaureate and associate degrees and specialized certificates in 21st century technologies.

Also honored were television journalist Geraldo Rivera; William Yosses, author and White House executive pastry chef; and Julian Niccolini, co-owner of the famed Four Seasons restaurant.
