Lillian Roberts elected VP of AFSCME
Executive Director Lillian Roberts was elected earlier this year and installed on June 22 as an international vice president of DC 37's parent union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
"I'm very excited about representing the interests of DC 37 members on AFSCME's board," Roberts said, "and I was happy to be elected without opposition. It's a real show of confidence."
Roberts is serving as an international vice president for the second time. In the 1960s, representing members in Chicago, she became the first African American woman elected as a vice president of AFSCME.
AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee performed the installation at the June meeting of the International Executive Board.
The position was previously held by former Local 372 President Veronica Montgomery-Costa, who retired earlier this year. DC 37's other IVP is Eddie Rodriguez, the president of DC 37 and Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549.
