Loretta Jones elected to MCU board
Local 1549 retiree Loretta Y. Jones became DC 37's newest contribution to the Municipal Credit Union's Board of Directors May 8 when she joined Justice Sylvia Ash, a former Supervising Attorney in the union's Municipal Employees Legal Service, on the board.
"I couldn't have done it without the support of DC 37 and Local 1549 President Eddie Rodriguez," Jones said. "This shows what a union can do when it sticks together," she said. "Low-interest MCU loans are important to our members, and DC 37 needed another voice on the board."
Jones, a longtime union activist and officer with an impressive resumé of union and community activism, worked as a Paralegal in the Housing Preservation and Development Dept.
"The opposition was stunned. I got more votes than anyone!" said Jones. MCU's recent election was run by the American Arbitration Association.
Jones credited her victory to the support she received from union staffers Beryl Major, Brett Koch and Wanda Williams, and the many local presidents, staff and rank-and-file activists who pitched in. Founded in 1916, the MCU manages $1.7 billion in assets.
