2010 blizzard: Do you have reimbursement coming?

The recent arbitration ruling on the 2010 blizzard upheld the city's right to require thousands of workers who missed work to use annual leave days if they want to make up the pay they were docked.

But the decision made an exception for two groups of workers: employees with disabilities and those who made it to work and found their offices closed.

The arbitrator ordered the city to notify eligible employees about how to be reimbursed for the docked pay; however, the union is uncertain whether all of them received the notice with their paychecks or took steps to be reimbursed.

DC 37 Research and Negotiations Director Evelyn Seinfeld urges members who are eligible to recoup their docked pay to visit their payroll or personnel department as soon as possible to process the reimbursement. They should contact the union if they have any trouble having their pay restored, she said.

"We are worried that some members may have slipped through the cracks and we want to make sure they are aware of their right to have their pay restored," Seinfeld said. "We also want to be sure they know the union is here to help if they encounter any problems."
