100 union members earn degrees
at CNR
More than 100 brand new college graduates
beamed with pride in their shiny robes as they approached the stage
at DC 37 May 5 to receive their baccalaureate degrees.
Equally proud were the families, friends and co-workers of the new grads
who attended the Eighth Annual Hooding Ceremony of the College of New
Rochelles DC 37 Campus. The ceremony is named for the academic
headgear that graduates have earned the right to wear since medieval
times.
Almost 3,000 DC 37 members have graduated from the union campus
the only one of its kind at any union which is part of CNRs
School of New Resources.
One of the May graduates was Shelly Ann Wilkinson, a member of Dept.
of Finance Local 1113. Im extremely proud of Ms. Wilkinson,
said Local 1113 President John Cummings.
She worked hard to complete the courses, and she was able to accomplish
what she set out to do, he added. DC 37 Education Fund Administrator
Barbara Kairson addressed the new graduates at the ceremony. We
congratulate you for taking and completing this big step, said
Ms. Kairson. And hopefully you will continue on this journey.
