2% raises due in September

More than 90,000 DC 37 members will receive 2 percent pay increases in September. The new economic agreement provides for the raises, which are effective July 1.

Employees in city agencies, School Aides and hourly workers at the Board of Education and full-time employees at the Health and Hospitals Corp. will get the increase and the amount retroactive to July 1 in their Sept. 10 paychecks. HHC hourly workers and employees at the Housing Authority and the Off-Track Betting Corp. will get the 2 percent pay hike Sept. 17.

The corresponding 2 percent adjustment in “additions to gross” — such as longevities, salary differentials, and uniform allowances — will come in a subsequent paycheck. The cultural institutions and the city’s three library systems had not set their pay dates at presstime, but the union has been pressing management to implement the 2 percent increases as soon as possible.

Members overwhelmingly ratified the July 1, 2002, to June 30, 2005 economic agreement earlier this year. In June, most members received the pact’s $1,000 “signing bonus” and in July they got the 3 percent hike retroactive to July 1, 2003. In addition to the 2 percent raise effective July 1, the contract provides for a possible 1 percent extra increase if a union-city committee can identify productivity and other savings.
