honors Lillian Roberts The New York City Branch of the National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People recently honored DC 37 Executive Director Lillian
Roberts for her outstanding contributions to the cause of freedom and justice.
Roberts
was honored June 6 at the NAACPs 97th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner-Dance together
with Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store
Union and president of the Jewish Labor Committee.
Roberts and Appelbaum
are part of our frontline troops, under the banner of our brotherhood and
sisterhood, and strengthened in the unity of labor and civil rights, said
Dr. Annie B. Martin, president of the New York branch.
Its
a real honor to receive this award from one of the most important civil rights
organizations in the history of this country, said Roberts.
Maf Misbah
Uddin, treasurer of DC 37 and president of Local 1407, and Denis M. Hughes, president
of the New York State AFL-CIO, co-chaired the dinner committee.
