Now in paperback: PEP writer’s book on blue-collar women

“Sisters in the Brotherhoods: Working Women Organizing for Equality in New York City,” by PEP Associate Editor Jane LaTour is now available in paperback. “Sisters” is based on oral history interviews with women who broke the gender barrier to blue-collar jobs beginning in the 1970s.

Historian Alice Kessler-Harris described it as “one of the most exciting books I’ve read in years.” Betsy Wade, former president of Newspaper Guild, Local 3, wrote: “This is a bitter tale of courage, told for the first time. In the words of the women themselves, we hear the gut-wrenching experiences of pioneers.”

The book is available in the DC 37 Ed Fund library or for $24.95 at independent bookstores, online and at http://us.macmillan.com/sistersinthebrotherhoods.
