Union welcomes new DC 37 college director
Dr. Stephen Greenfeld has been appointed the new director of the DC 37 Campus of the College of New Rochelle. No stranger to CNR, since 2007 he has served as Assistant Campus Director, taught English courses and supervised the campus tutoring system.
As the new director, one of Greenfeld's main objectives is to "help students develop outstanding communication and critical thinking skills," said Greenfeld, and increase student enrollment at CNR. "We want to make sure that as many union members as possible take advantage of this unique educational opportunity."
Greenfeld also aims to expand the use of technology in teaching and support the use of online digital resources to enhance students' communication and collaboration skills.
Information sessions
Greenfeld has scheduled information sessions and open houses for union members to learn more about enrolling at CNR including the college's admission criteria and financial aid requirements. (See box below article, at right.)
DC 37 is the only union in the United States with a college for members in its headquarters. CNR's DC 37 Campus offers bachelor's degrees in liberal arts, with areas of interest in social sciences, psychology, communications, humanities and foreign languages.
For the new director, adults who work during the day and attend school at night make very good college students. "I have never seen a more motivated group of students; they persist in their academic work despite the multiple responsibilities they face in their jobs, families and communities," said Greenfeld.
Greenfeld earned his PhD. in English from Columbia University and has 17 years of administrative experience in higher education at institutions including Marymount Manhattan College, George Mason University and the City University system. He replaces Dr. Patrice Gouveia Marks, who was campus director for four years.
"I'm very excited about directing the DC 37 Campus and supporting these students," he said.
