Solidarity with Verizon workers

Executive Director Henry Garrido led a contingent of DC 37 activists at a rally to support Verizon workers who are fighting for a new contract.

"We stand behind our brothers and sisters from Verizon in their fight for a fair contract," Garrido said at the rally.

Verizon union members from as far away as Buffalo and Virginia joined the Verizon Solidarity March July 25 in front of the company's headquarters on West Street in Lower Manhattan. The rally was organized by the Communication Workers of America, which represents the Verizon workers.

Verizon is demanding concessions from the workers that include a large increase in health care contributions. The union members are currently working without a contract.

Joining the rally was city Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James and Congress member Nydia Velazquez.
