Unions support Harlem parade

DC 37 members joined dozens of community groups and labor unions at the 47th annual African American Day in Harlem. Deborah Pitts, president of Local 1113 and chair of the Black History Committee, led the way down the parade route along Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard from 111th Street to W. 136th Street. Members from Local 372, SSEU Local 371 and Local 1549 also participated in the Sunday afternoon parade on Sept. 18.

DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido was one of several honorary grand marshals. The Transport Workers Union Local 100, 32BJ SEIU and Construction and General Building Laborers Local 79 also joined the annual parade, which takes place every year on the third Sunday of September.
