DC 37 continues the fight against AIDS For the 25th year, DC 37 observed World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 with a display in the lobby at union headquarters. The exhibit was filled with pamphlets, condoms and supportive red ribbons for members and staff. Visitors were also able to sign panels of fabric that will be turned into a memory quilt. "Many people don't realize that AIDS still affects everybody," said retiree Arlene Tuff, who was joined in passing out literature by fellow activists Auriel Henderson of the DC 37 Information Technology Dept. and retiree Iona Allen. An estimated 35 million people worldwide are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Tuff has been involved in spreading awareness regarding HIV/AIDS since her son Alan passed away from the disease at the age of 34 in 1991. "AIDS is not over yet and that's why we're still concerned," Tuff said. "AIDS is still a major health issue and we must continue to fight against it and be educated about the prevention and treatment of it," said former DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts, who visited the display. Tuff also thanked DC 37 Program Director Frances M. Curtis for her continued support for their efforts every year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
