Roberts honored in Harlem
For
her many years as an outspoken advocate for working people, the Greater Harlem
Chamber of Commerce recently presented DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts
with their Chambers 2007 Outstanding Labor Leadership Award. Roberts received
the honor Dec. 18 at the organizations annual awards night and reception,
which was held at the Sky Restaurant in Harlem.
Our Chamber is honored
to be able to recognize and salute someone so deserving, said Lloyd A. Williams,
president and chief executive officer of the GHCC.
At the affair, New York
City Comptroller William C. Thompson also presented the veteran labor leader with
a proclamation honoring her years of dedicated service to city employees, her
tireless efforts to increase opportunity, enhance living conditions and protect
the rights of working people, and her lasting contributions to New York City.
Its
truly an honor to receive this kind of recognition for the work that has been
done, said Roberts at the ceremony, where about a dozen DC 37 local presidents
accompanied her. If Ive been able to help some people lead a more
productive life, then all of the struggles have been worth it, she said. | |
