Committee celebrates 35th anniversary

DC 37's Black History Committee kicked off its annual month-long schedule of activities at the union to celebrate Black History Month. The festivities started with the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony on Feb. 1. Executive Director Henry Garrido and Maf Bisbah Uddin, president of Local 1407 and union treasurer, were invited by committee Chair and Local 1113 president Deborah Pitts to do the honors.

This year marked the 35th annual celebration of Black History Month at DC 37. The theme this year was "The Struggle Continues," and the highlight was the theatrical presentation of "Mandela." The play celebrates Nelson Mandela's historic visit to New York City and was written by John Ruiz and Yolanda Brooks.
