HHC/MLC gets activism award

The Health and Hospital's Corp. Subcommittee of the Municipal Labor Committee was honored April 21 by the Commission on the Public's Health System for its activism in the struggle to keep quality health care accessible to all New Yorkers.

Committee member Ralph Palladino, the 2nd Vice President of Local 1549, accepted the Marshall C. England Public Health Award on behalf of the HHC/MLC at the Orensanz Cultural Center in Lower Manhattan.

"This is a great honor, especially since the award is named after a great health-care activist," said Palladino, who received the plaque from Communications Workers Local 1180 Vice President Bill Henning and CPHS Director Judy Wessler.

Formed by community groups, activists, health workers and unions in 1991, CPHS has worked closely with DC 37 in campaigns to save the city's public hospitals.
