National Night Out in Harlem

Union activists joined Harlem residents on 135th Street Aug. 4 for their annual National Night Out Against Crime, an event that brings together community residents and their local police precinct in an effort to make their community safer. The street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues was closed for the evening as children played basketball on a court set up by the officers of the 32nd Precinct and kids got their faces painted by volunteers. DC 37 registered new voters and invited residents to come to the annual Labor Day Parade on Sept. 12.

"It's important that we all work together to make our community safe for everyone," said Local 299 President and Harlem activist Jackie Rowe-Adams.
