Green Machine activists honored
The union's Political Action Committee hosted a reception to honor dozens of members who contribute their hard-earned dollars to Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality, the political and legislative arm of DC 37's parent union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
PEOPLE funds are used to support elected officials who back legislation favorable to union members, register members to vote and influence public policy and legislation.
"Our activists, especially those who contribute to PEOPLE, are so important to our organizing campaigns," said the DC 37 PEOPLE committee chair, Michelle Akyempong, who is also Local 371's vice president of legislation and political action.
PEOPLE MVPs - union members who contribute at least $100 annually - were also acknowledged at the committee's reception on April 21.
The top five recruiters of new PEOPLE members were also honored. Those top five were: Schools Division Grievance Rep Latreva Scott, Schools Division Council Rep Peggy Benjamin, Clerical Division Sr. Council Rep Eddie Douglass, Schools Division Grievance Rep Stephanie Torres and Hospitals Division Council Rep Sallie Stallings.
