Edited by Alfredo Alvarado Member receives Silkwood award
The New York Committee for Occupational Safety & Health (NYCOSH) on May 12 awarded SSEU Local 371's Deborah Williams the prestigious Karen Silkwood Award for advocating on behalf of New York's public sector workers on occupational safety and health issues.
Williams, a labor activist for nearly 30 years, is the Health and Safety Coordinator for SSEU Local 371. She also serves on the Labor Committee for the World Trade Center Health Registry and on the advisory board of the Mount Sinai Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health.
Williams thanked NYCOSH for the honor. "I am inspired everyday by our SSEU Local 371 members who, once they know their rights, use them as a foundation to take action," she said.
Founded in 1979, NYCOSH is a workers' advocacy group that works to improve health and safety conditions in the workplace and communities.
