Local 1549 donates school supplies

As summer draws to an end, kids prepare to head back to school.

For parents, this means going out and buying many costly school supplies for their children.

To help its members save money on these items, Local 1549 and its Women's Committee hosted a Back-to-School Book Bag Giveaway on Aug. 6 at union headquarters in Manhattan.

About 125 book bags filled with such items as notebooks, erasers and pencils were given out to youngsters.

"The local is more than happy to help our members by providing crucial supplies for the upcoming school year," said Local 1549 Executive Vice President Alma Roper.
