National Night Out in Harlem

Union activists joined residents throughout the city for the annual National Night Out, which seeks to promote better cooperation and understanding between police officers and the communities they serve.

In Harlem, at Co-Op City in the Bronx and at Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn, officers closed the streets so children could play and ride their bicycles. DC 37 activists set up tables at all three locations and gave away thunder sticks, copies of Public Employee Press, and invited everyone to join the union's contingent at the annual Labor Day Parade.

Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer joined the festivities in Harlem on 135th Street along with Harlem activist and Local 299 President Jackie Rowe-Adams.

National Night Out, which takes place the first Tuesday of every August, is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watches.
