Parks employee is a lifesaver

The Dept. of Parks and Recreation named Parks Supervisor Nicole Brewer as its August Employee of the Month after she went beyond the call of duty to save a coworker's life.

"My first day back and I helped saved a life," said Brewer.

When the worker fell out and was unresponsive, Brewer called 911 - and his wife, who provided vital information that she passed along to hospital doctors, who were able to revive him.

"I'm in total shock and never thought in a million years something like this would happen," Brewer said. "I didn't feel we did anything special but his wife said we did. It feels good to be recognized for something positive."

"Local 1508 fought to have Brewer reinstated to Parks Supervisor after Parks demoted her before could she complete probation," said Mike Zeno, president of Local 1508. "Parks restored her a week before the lifesaving incident. Gladly she is now a permanent employee."
